Neighbor to Neighbor in the Nenes Non-discrimination Policy

A.   Policy/Purpose

It is the policy of Neighbor to Neighbor in the Nenes (N3) to value the diversity of and to welcome participation from any interested parties in all areas of service delivery, employment, and volunteer participation, including recruitment, hiring, training and development, promotion, transfer, termination, layoff, compensation, benefits, and all other conditions and privileges of employment in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. N3 is committed to equal employment and volunteer opportunity without regard to age, ancestry, disability, national or ethnic origin, race, religious belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, political belief, or veteran status.

B.   Definitions

1.   Discrimination

For the purposes of this policy, “discrimination” is any adverse action denying full and equal participation in any program, service, or activity of organization based on one or more of the protected characteristics set forth in this policy.

2.   Protected Characteristic

For the purposes of this policy, “protected characteristic” refers to an individual’s race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, marital or family status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by law.

3.   Retaliation

For the purposes of this policy, “retaliation” refers to taking an adverse action against an individual who has complained of discrimination under this policy or who has taken part in the investigation of a complaint of discrimination under this policy.

C.   Procedures

1.   Discrimination Complaints

N3 takes complaints of discrimination seriously and will promptly investigate all complaints made under this policy. Any individual who believes he or she has been subjected to discrimination in or denied access to employment or volunteer service in the organization’s programs, services, or activities based on one or more of the protected characteristics defined in this policy may file a complaint with the executive director within 30 days of the alleged discrimination.

Complaints may be submitted to:

Executive Director

Neighbor to Neighbor in the Nenes

1525 Heechee Nene

Tallahassee, FL 32301

(850) 901-7818

Executivedirector@aginginneneland.org

If possible, the complaint should be submitted in writing and include the identity of the complainant, the basis for the allegations (i.e., race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, marital or family status, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression), and a description of the alleged discrimination with the date of the incident. If the complainant is unable or unwilling to submit the complaint in writing, the executive director shall document the complaint, including the information described here. Once received, the complaint will be kept in the organization’s confidential records stored in Club Express.

The executive director will assign a select group of volunteers to investigate all complaints promptly and will make every effort to ensure investigations are concluded within 60 days of receipt. If more information is needed from the complainant, the executive director will contact the complainant in writing. Failure of the complainant to supply the requested information in a timely manner may result in the administrative closure of the complaint or in a delay in complaint resolution.

Upon completion of the investigation, the executive director shall issue an investigative report with findings as to the nature and substance of the allegations to the complainant and any relevant person. If there are substantiated findings of discrimination, the executive director will determine any corrective action to be taken because of the report’s findings.

The findings of the executive director shall be final.

2.   Retaliation Prohibited

Retaliation against any individual for filing a discrimination complaint, or for aiding, testifying, or participating in the investigation of such a complaint, is illegal under federal law and is prohibited by this policy.

3.   ADA/Section 504 Statement

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), as amended, and related federal and state laws and regulations prohibit discrimination against persons with disabilities. These laws require recipients of federal financial assistance to take affirmative steps to reasonably accommodate persons with disabilities and ensure that their needs are equitably represented in the provision of services or activities provided by N3.

The organization will make every effort to ensure that its programs, services, and activities are accessible to persons with disabilities and will make every effort to ensure that its committees, public involvement activities, and all other programs, services, and activities include representation by the disabled community and disability service groups.

N3 encourages the public to report any program, service, or activity that appears inaccessible to those who are disabled. The organization will provide reasonable accommodation to persons with disabilities who wish to take part in public involvement events or who require special assistance to access facilities, programs, services, or activities. Because providing reasonable accommodation may require outside assistance, organization, or resources, N3 asks that requests be made at least 14 calendar days prior to the need for accommodation.

Questions, concerns, comments, or requests for accommodation should be made to:
